Petfood
The petfood industry is developing rapidly throughout the world. As wealth continues to increase, increasing numbers of pets are given industrial petfood, notably in Asia, South America and Southern Europe.
In the United States and Western Europe people tend to move from medium-range towards premium and super-premium petfoods, as the pet is considered “one of the family”.

Improved digestion
For pets, as well as for humans, a healthy intestinal system on the inside is reflected in a good appearance on the outside.
Various tests have shown that the inulin and oligofructose obtained from chicory improve the pets’ intestinal flora by stimulating colonization with beneficial lactic acid bacteria.
Lactic acid bacteria are known for their ability to reduce the density of potential pathogens, stimulate immune functions, improve mineral metabolism and protect the intestinal mucosa, thus supporting the digestive process.
Fermentation of the inulin results in higher SCFA production, reducing the pH in the colon, thus creating an environment less favourable to proteolytic fermentation and the production of malodorous substances which, in turn, is much appreciated by the pet owners.
As in human beings, improved intestinal health in pets is also beneficial for the absorption of essential nutrients such as calcium (improved bone mineral density) from the diet. A healthy digestive system also contributes to the well-being of the pets.
Balanced energy supply
With increasing problems of obesity, a regular and balanced energy supply is required in petfood. Rice products are known for their excellent digestibility and nutritional properties.
